vintage attitude

Vintage es el término empleado para referirse a objetos o accesorios de calidad que presentan cierta edad, los cuales sin embargo no pueden aun catalogarse como antigüedades- Wikipedia dixit.

Vintage is the word used to refer to things and accessories of certain quality and age, but still not considered antiques- Wikipedia dixit.

Si te pregunto qué te viene a la cabeza cuando digo "vintage" (pronúnciese como quiera), qué imágenes te vienen? A mí fotos de Portobello Market en Londres en primavera, de casa de campo con teteras metálicas en tonos pastel y manteles de flores, broches camafeos y bolsos de las abuelas...pero hoy en día yo creo que ser vintage es una actitud.

If I ask you now what's your idea of "vintage", which images come first to your mind? I see pictures of Portobello Market in London in Spring, a British cottage with flower print tableclothes and pastel metal teapots, cameo broochs and grandma's leather bags...but nowadays I think to be vintage is a matter of attitude.

Ahora lo más es ser vintage chic, es decir, ir tremendamente fashion pero con algo que antes decíamos de mercadillo y ahora ponemos "vintage", algo que no nos acordamos dónde compramos hace tiempo o no tiene marca, ahora se llama vintage. Y a mí me gusta el nombre, porque a veces son verdaderas "joyas".


Actually, now the coolest is to go vintage chic, in other words, go super trendy but with something before called "from flea market" and now "vintage", something we don't remember the brand or where we bought and now it's "vintage". And I have to say, I like this word, some things are really a treasure.

Será por eso que me cuesta tanto deshacerme de la ropa vieja... en qué momento lo demodé pasa a ser vintage?


This could be the reason why is hard for me to get rid of old clothes...when a demodé garment become vintage?

Entre las adolescentes europeas hay una fuerte tendencia a vestir vintage, aquí en España no tanto, al menos en el norte, pero poco a poco todos vamos adquiriendo toques de ese estilo: los cinturones de cuero con hebillas años 80, alpargatas, los bolsos desgastados tipo satchel y por supuesto, las ya nada vintage, gafas nerd.


Among the European teens there's a strong trend of wearing vintage, here in Spain not so much, at least in the North, but I see we have started to introduce some style details: old leather belts with 80's buckles, espadrilles, worn satchel bags and of course, the not  any more vintage, nerd glasses.

Pero si hay algo muy muy vintage, pero que podemos comprar "brand new" eso es ropa interior, no notáis que últimamente toda la lencería tiene un toque retro, digo, vintage ;)


But if there's anything very very vintage, but we can buy "brand new" is underwear, don't you find that there are retro, sorry I mean vintage, lingerie everywhere?

Dicho esto, yo no soy muy vintage, quizá no tengo tanta personalidad fashionil y me gusta más seguir las tendencias, pero es verdad que admiro a las que lo saben mezclar con prendas de temporada, me encanta el resultado, y aprender a hacerlo bien es mi reto!


Having said this, I'm not very vintage, maybe I don't have such a fashion personality and I do prefer to follow seasonal trends, but I admire more to those who know how to mix & match seasonal must haves and vintage clothes, I love the result, that's my challenge!

comme des belles garçonnes

Siempre he pensado que las chicas que llevan el pelo muy corto, à lo garçon, en clave fashion, tienen una fuerte personalidad. No es nada fácil atreverse a dar ese paso, sobre todo cuando sobre pasarela y en la calle, las melenas mandan. Antiguamente se asociaba con la masculinidad, pero para mi es más bien todo lo contrario, no hay más femme fatale que una mujer con pelo corto y vestida ultra femenina.

I've always thought that girls with à lo garçon haircut should have a strong personality. It's not easy to decide for this cut, specially when what we see in runways and streets are on the contrary proud long hair women. In the past it was associated to the masculinity, but as for me it's just the opposite, there's no more femme fatale than a short hair woman wearing ultra feminine clothes.

Entre las celebrities hubo una moda, y a cada cual le sentaba mejor.

Among the celebrities, there was a boom some years ago, I couldn't choose the flatterest one...

En el street style también hay muy buenos ejemplos, no me digas qué no tienen un estilo super personal?

...y entre las bloggers? La verdad es que no son muchas las que se atreven, pero aquí está mi amiga que siempre llevó un look garçonette y ahora tiene blog recién estrenado: cosasquehacerantesdelos30 (qué gran título!) que me ha inspirado para escribir este post!

...and what about the bloggers? There're not many, but here I have to mention my friend who always had a garÇonnete hair style and she just opened a blog: cosasquehacerantesdelos30  (things to do before turning 30, great name!), from whom I got the inspiration for this post!

1. cuellos altos y con volúmen en contraste con el volumen de la cabeza.

1. turtle and voluminous neck, in contrast with the head volume.

2. collares grandes, ideales con un cuello largo y delgado

2. XXL necklaces, perfect for long and thin necks

3. maxi gafas, igualmente volvemos a jugar con los volúmenes

3. maxi glasses, to play again with the volumes

4. ropa ultrafemenina: faldas lápiz, tacones, escotes en V...

4. ultra feminine clothes: pencil skirts, high heels, V-necks...

Qué os parece este arriesgado corte de pelo?  a mí me gustaría atreverme pero no...

En el detalle y las cosas pequeña está el estilo. 

Style is in small things and details.

Esa es mi reflexión del día, estoy convencida de que la forma de colocar, ponerse o destacar una misma prenda o accesorio marca la diferencia. Por qué no se ve igual una misma camisa blanca en dos chicas distintas? Yo me fijo mucho muchísimo en esas cosas, en las revistas, sabiendo que me es imposible llevar unos pitillos de Isabel Marant o un pañuelo de Céline me fijo en cómo lo llevan, para hacer lo mismo con el mio de Zara... y por la calle, se aprende tanto de las chicas estilosas de la calle!

That's my thought of today, I'm convinced that the way of placing, wearing or standing out a garment or accessory makes the difference. Why doesn't look like the same white shirt in two different women? I do pay much attention to all these things, when I "read" a fashion magazine, I know I won't buy a pair of Marant skinnies or a trendy Céline scarf, but I learn how they wear them and I do the same with my Zara's...obviously I learn a lot from the stylish girls in the street!

Por eso, ahora que estamos en época de "apretarse el cinturón" podemos conseguir estilos nuevos con sólo cambiar la forma de llevar las cosas, sólo hay que prestarle atención a los pequeños detalles, sin que parezcan forzados, el resultado tiene que ser natural y sencillo.

Because it's time of "tighten one's belt", we can get new styles with just a small change of the way of wearing the same things, it's just a matter of paying attention to the small details, the result must be simple and effortless.

1. El cinturón finito si es largo mejor, así le das un nudo
1. The belt, the thiner the longer, this way you can tie a knot

2. Deja una muñeca siempre libre, concentra reloj y pulseras en el mismo brazo
2. Leave always a wrist free, put watch and brazelets in the same arm

3. La camisa que asome del jersey un pico solo por encima del cinturón
3. The shirt or blouse should be shown, just one bottom side, at belt height.

4. Si llevas pantalones, nunca (haga el frío que haga) lleves bailarinas o stilettos con medias o calcetines de colores.
4. With pants, never (even when freezing) wear ballet flats or stilettos with colour tights nor socks

5. Cuello en pico: 0 adornos, Cuello redondo: collar o cuello llamativo
5. V-neck jumper: 0 ornaments, Rounded neck: bold necklace or collar

6. Jersey o blusa metido ligeramente (como por accidente) en la cintura por delante, largo por detrás
6. Jumper or blouse slightly (as accidentally) tucked in at waist height, in the front only

7. Blazer siempre remangada, si el forro no es distinto, entonces envuélvela con la camisa.
7. Always roll up your blazer sleeves, if the lining is not bright enough, then wrap your shirt sleeves over.

8. Y por su puesto, no combinar zapatos y bolsos anymore!
8. At last but not least, do not match your shoes with your bag anymore!
